CIU’s Dual Enrollment program gives high school students the opportunity to get a head start on their college degree. Students can take any 1000 or 2000 level course at the reduced cost of $100 per credit hour. Participating in the dual enrollment experience helps ease the transition from high school to college and will prepare students for the academic rigor of college courses.

- Before starting your application, it is helpful to have the following items handy:

- Application Instructions
- When starting our application process, you will be instructed to create an application portal account. Please use an email that you check frequently as important updates will be communicated via this address.
- Once you have created your portal login, you will begin a new on campus high school concurrent application. For students only taking online courses, this is still the correct application for you.
- Please ensure all information is correct before submitting your completed application.
- Once an application has been submitted, one of our admissions counselors will be in touch with next steps.
- GPA Requirements
- High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors may participate in dual enrollment. The GPA requirement for acceptance for all students is a 3.0 on an unweighted scale.
- Sending Transcripts
- Official transcripts may be emailed to admissions@ciu.edu or mailed to the Admissions Office at 7435 Monticello Rd., Columbia, SC 29203.
- We must have official transcripts to review an application for acceptance. An official transcript is one that comes directly from a school representative or homeschool association.
- Registration

Dual Enrollment students are responsible for registering themselves for their desired courses. This will take place through your student portal on . You will receive your login information via email after acceptance.

- While students are able to register for any 1000 and 2000 level course some of our course selections have prerequisite requirements. This will be indicated at the time of registration. If you feel you have already met the prerequisite requirement, contact academic advising or your admissions counselor.

- Payments for dual enrollment course(s) are due before the first day of classes for the semester.
- Bills can be accessed and resolved online through MyCIU under the Finances tab.
- Payments can be made in full or through a monthly payment plan option.
- Physical textbooks will have a mailing fee indicated on your bill.
- Some courses may have an additional course fee for supplemental course material.
- Payments for dual enrollment course(s) are due before the first day of classes for the semester.
Admitted Students

- Upon acceptance to CIU, students will receive access to their online student account, , where they will be able to register for their courses, access their student email, and resolve their bill.
- Canvas
- Canvas is a course website that houses all registered courses. Course syllabi, instructor information, and other course information can be accessed through Canvas, and online courses will use Canvas for most learning content.
- Canvas can be accessed through your MyCIU account with the Canvas link at the top. Your MyCIU username and password will be the same login information for Canvas.
- CIU Email
- Students receive access to their student email shortly after they are accepted to CIU’s Dual Enrollment program.
- The student email can be accessed through MyCIU with the email link at the top.
- The first time the email is accessed, students will be prompted through an authentication process.
- Many students choose to forward their CIU email to their personal or school email account to ensure they do not miss any updates.

- Textbook information
- Digital textbooks can be accessed by logging into your MyCIU account, going to the Quick Links menu, selecting Bookstore, and entering your CIU email as your username and your Student ID as your password.
- Physical textbooks will be mailed to the address listed on the student’s application and must be returned at the end of the course with the label provided.
- Dual enrollment students have access to the following student services:
- CIU library resources, printing, tutoring, the student center and gym, etc.
- Students must request a student ID though the CIU Helpdesk to access most services.
- Parking decals for on-campus students are required and can be accessed through MyCIU (Campus Life>Vehicle Registration).
- The FERPA is a permission to access records form, and it is on the dual enrollment application. If edits need to be made, it can be accessed through MyCIU under the Academics tab.

- What is the format of the classes?

It depends on if you are taking an in-person or online class. In person classes take place on CIU’s campus in Columbia, SC and are held at certain times throughout the week. Our online classes are asynchronous, meaning students can complete things on their own schedule but within a certain time frame.
- How much does dual enrollment cost?

The cost of dual enrollment is $100 per credit hour or $300 for a three-credit course.
Participating in dual enrollment can be a big commitment, so it’s important to be sure it’s the right choice for you before enrolling. However, for students who are motivated and ready for the challenge, dual enrollment can be a great way to get a head start on college and gain valuable experience. - Can a student repeat a course to raise their grade?

A student can only repeat a course if they receive a grade of D or below. The last grade earned becomes the grade of record, and only the credits for the last grade earned count toward the student’s record of completed credits.
- Can a student withdraw from a CIU course?

Yes, students can withdraw from their dual enrollment course by completing a Course Withdrawal Request Form in MyCIU. The withdrawal deadline for each semester can be found on our .
- Is there a maximum number of credits I can take?

Students can take up to 12 credits per semester. If a student wishes to take more than 12 credits, they will need to contact the Registrar’s Office and have special permission from their school.
- Can I get an Associate’s degree at CIU through dual enrollment?

We do not offer an Associate’s track, but students can connect with an Academic Advisor to discuss courses that might apply towards an AA. Students will be subject to any changes in the university Catalog and may need additional credits to earn the degree.
- How do I request my CIU transcript to be sent to another college?

Transcripts can easily be requested by clicking on the “Academics” tab in MyCIU.
- How do I access my 1098T Form?

This tax document can be accessed on the “Finances” tab of MyCIU.
- Can I do online courses?

Yes, some of our dual enrollment courses are available in an online format. Please see our course offerings document to see specific classes. Virtual courses will be indicated by the “V” in the course code.
- Can I take Summer courses?

CIU does have courses over the summer, but offerings may be limited. You may view the available courses by term here.
- Can I eat in the cafeteria?

Dual enrollment students can use many of CIU’s facilities and will need to request a student ID at our IT Help Desk in the Library. If a student wishes to eat in the cafeteria, they can add funds to their ID card either in-person or on the dining hall website.
- Can I transfer the credits I earn through dual enrollment to other colleges?

Yes, the credits earned through dual enrollment are generally transferable to other colleges and universities. It’s a good idea to check with the college you plan to attend to confirm that the credits will be accepted.
