Even though rain made an appearance, it didn’t stop the CIU athletics teams from greeting children with full smiles and in full costume.
The Rams came together for the first-ever “Trunk or Treat” event in the parking lot of the Moore Fitness Center. CIU faculty, staff and students assisted the athletes in giving out Bible verses, bags of treats, stickers, and warm welcomes as children and adults came to celebrate around the decorated vehicles.
A lot of work went into the decorating of each vehicle. One group had a hammock hanging from the back of their trunk with bamboo branches to create a safari look. A few steps later, and kids found themselves “Under the Sea.” Another was cookie monster-themed. The CIU security team made an appearance, giving out sheriff badge stickers and candy.
Though young and old enjoyed the event, it was a special opportunity for kids to experience the joys of dressing up from head to toe. Whether pretending to be a sparkling fairy, Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz,” or collecting candy as a Dalmatian firedog, the personalities of each child were represented by the costumes they wore. In between the puddles of rain, athletes knelt down to the little ones to relate with them on their level.
“It’s been a great Trunk or Treat event,” commented Dr. Rick Christman, the executive vice president of Student Services and Online Services. “All the coaches and athletes have come and participated and made this a great community opportunity for kids to share and have fun. I’m thankful to everybody that contributed trunks and worked to make this possible.”
