New golf coach comes with wealth of experience

The new coach at Ƶ is a South Carolina native with a wealth of experience as a player and golf instructor.
Tucker MacDonald, who grew up in Greer and played golf in college at North Greenville University (NGU), takes over the CIU Rams’ program from interim golf coach Evan Brouwer who held the position during the 2019 fall season.
MacDonald toured for two years as a professional golfer after graduating from NGU in 2015 before becoming golf camp director for in Orlando, Florida. There he managed a children’s after-school program, which included leading on-course instruction and supervision of coaches. MacDonald also served as the tournament director of the , a developmental professional golf tour.
During his senior year at NGU, MacDonald helped lead his team to the NCAA DII Southeast regional while also being named Conference Carolina's 1st Team All-Conference. He also excelled in the classroom as an NCAA Academic All-American and the Conference Carolina Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2015.
CIU Athletics Director expects MacDonald to develop a championship culture within the CIU golf program,
“His heart for others to grow in their Christian walk and in leadership will be a great fit for the CIU Athletics Department," Whitaker added.
MacDonald echoes that sentiment.
"Inspiring our athletes to reach their full potential is the main reason I am excited to start as the men's golf coach,” MacDonald said. “CIU athletics is intentional about developing leaders on the playing field while keeping Christ at the center of it all. I am looking forward to the challenge of establishing a championship culture for the men's golf program."
CIU will open the 2020 spring golf season on Feb. 9 at the Coastal Georgia Invitational.
