From Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to South Carolina

Ismael Valverde Kardouchi was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, and from an early age showed a strong desire to excel, both academically and athletically. In 2017, he decided to take a brave leap and cross the Atlantic to follow his dreams in the United States. Kansas was his first destination, where he began an adventure that would transform his life.

The Beginning at Kansas: Soccer and Academic Excellence

His arrival in Kansas was marked by his admission to Central Christian College of Kansas (CCCK), where he not only stood out as a talented soccer player, but also as a committed student. During his time at CCCK, he was part of the soccer team that, for the first time in the college’s history, qualified for the NCCAA National Tournament. Ismael was recognized for his outstanding performance, being named to the All-Tournament Team, a distinction reserved for the best players in the tournament.

But his success was not limited to the playing field. Ismael graduated with a double major in Business Management and Marketing, both with honors, which earned him the prestigious NCCAA Scholar Athlete Award. His passion for business led him to join the Business Club, where he participated in state competitions and won first place in three categories: Management Analysis & Decision Making, Emerging Business Issues and Contemporary Sports Issues.

From the Classroom to the World of Work

After completing his studies at CCCK, Ismael opted to apply for the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program to gain work experience in the United States. It was then that he joined Midway Motors, an automobile company in Kansas, where his initial role was in sales. However, the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic brought with it new challenges, and Ismael demonstrated his ability to adapt and lead in times of crisis.

Observing the need for many people to sell their vehicles for income, Ismael took the initiative and began buying cars from over six different states, helping both customers and the company. His effort and dedication paid off, and at the end of his time at Midway Motors, he was recognized as the top buyer of the year across all company locations.

A Step Toward Leadership

Determined to continue his professional development, Ismael began a Master of Science in Strategic Leadership, where he delved into key topics for organizational management and leadership. This program allowed him to understand and apply theories of organizational identity and leadership management, building internal alliances and developing critical skills to lead teams and organizations. During his time in this program, Ismael not only focused on his studies, but also actively participated in the Business Division, where he made international connections, led internal operations and planned meetings, demonstrating his leadership skills and attention to detail.

A New Chapter at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ

After a year of studying for his Master of Science in Strategic Leadership degree, Ismael received an offer that would change his path: a scholarship to play soccer and study for an MBA at ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ (CIU). Although coming to CIU meant facing new challenges and adapting to a completely new environment, Ismael quickly integrated into the soccer team, earning a spot on the first team. His season was outstanding until the end of the season when he was cut short by a cruciate ligament injury in the last game of the season, but this did not stop his competitive spirit. Currently, while recovering, he has taken on the role of assistant to the CIU soccer team, contributing to his experience and leadership.

In addition, Ismael has played a crucial role in the creation of the Business Career & Development Center (BCDC) at CIU, where he serves as director of operations, contributing innovative ideas and helping to shape the future of the center.

Inspiring the Next Generation

This summer, Ismael returned to Spain and visited The American School of Las Palmas, where he shared his inspiring journey with the students. He also had the opportunity to lead a summer soccer camp, connecting with the children and passing on his passion for sports and education. His story has left a mark on these young people, who now see in him an example to follow and dream of achieving their own goals in the United States.

Ismael Valverde Kardouchi has traveled an impressive road, full of achievements and challenges, but his journey is far from over. With his focus on strategic leadership and his passion for soccer, he is ready to continue reaching new goals and leaving an indelible mark on the academic and sports world.
