Dr. Johnson moved to Columbia after serving as a director of care and counseling for 17 years. He is currently serving as the president of the board of at the Albert Ellis Institute for cognitive behavioral therapy/rational emotive behavior therapy in New York City. ÌýFor many years he has supervised mental health practitioners around the world and continues to do so. He is also a licensed mental health professional and has extensive experience treating individuals and training professionals in counseling severe trauma and substance use disorders along with co-occurring disorders, such as major depression. He has also taught Muslim Studies at CIU as an adjunct professor for nearly 20 years.
Dr. Johnson is a devoted writer who publishes in the areas psychotherapy and philosophy, with an emphasis on the philosophy and psychology of the self and associated issues of unconditional self-acceptance. He actively runs webinars on integrating faith and evidence-based counseling to treat everyday mental and emotional issues.Ìý
He is married to Carol Stone, who is a biochemist and epidemiologist employed as an epidemiologist for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. His two daughters, Lauren and Shannon, are both pursuing careers in psychology.
