Dr. James Lanpher serves as Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Ƶ. He also serves as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Lanpher has been a leader in Biblical higher education, previously serving in a variety of capacities with the Association for Biblical Higher Education including Chairman of the Commission on Accreditation. Dr. Lanpher taught overseas at the Alliance Biblical Seminary (now the Alliance Graduate School) in Manila, The Philippines. He also taught at the University of Notre Dame, Crown College, and at CIU's site in Germany (The European School of Culture and Theology) and served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Trinity College of Florida.
Dr. Lanpher graduated cum laude from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. with a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree majoring in international economics and obtaining language proficiency in Chinese. He received his Master of Divinity from Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack, New York. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Christianity and Judaism in Antiquity from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. His dissertation, “The Miraculous in Mark: Its Eschatological Background and Christological Function,” focused on the role of miracles in Mark’s portrayal and understanding of Jesus.
In 1986 Dr. Lanpher married his wife Lisa, who has a Masters of Educational Leadership degree from the University of South Florida and taught in Florida public schools. Their son, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters live in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
