Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Dr. Alex Manzewitsch joined the CIU faculty in 2023 after teaching general and organic chemistry at the University of South Carolina (2017–2023). Dr. Manzewitsch received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry with minors in mathematics and physics in 2017 from Wingate University, and later received his Ph.D. in chemistry in 2023 from the University of South Carolina. His research focus is developing systems to observe how organic solvent environments affect solvated molecule interactions and geometries. He also holds an interest in studying and optimizing teaching methods for improving student performance in organic chemistry courses.

Dr. Manzewitsch’s vision for the department of health and natural sciences is to develop a premiere program for preparing Christians to enter the medical field both in the U.S. and abroad. Furthermore, He aims to establish a chemistry program with a focus on training chemical researchers. In everything, his intention is to teach students the harmony of God’s creation, logical problem solving, and an ethic of excellence so that “that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

Dr. Manzewitsch lives with his wife Alisha and their two children in Columbia where they attend Covenant Baptist Church. His hobbies include running, the outdoors, tabletop role playing games, and podcasts. He is also involved in state politics in advocating for the equal protection of all human life and the abolition of abortion.
