Instructional Designer
Description
The Instructional Designer is a key member of the instructional design team and creates and maintains well-designed Canvas course sites to support online instruction at CIU. The person in this position is responsible for making requested changes in content and layout, utilizing companion software to enhance course sites, and assists with access issues that occasionally arise. Preference is for the designer to be site-based as opposed to remote.
Responsibilities
- Edit prescribed layout of Canvas courses as requested to improve navigation and supportinstruction.
- Review online course regularly for quality (correct content, layout, ease of navigation, working links,Ìýetc.) and alert the instructional design group members to quality-relatedÌýissues.
- Maintain course site templates and procedures for review andÌýapproval.
- Support online course development schedule through editing efficiently and communicatingeffectively with colleagues and otherstakeholders.
- Utilize companion software programs that integrate with Canvas to supportÌýinstruction.
- Integrate textbook publisher access codes with Canvas and provide support for faculty andstudent access, asÌýneeded.
Qualifications
- At least three (3) years of technical writing, editing, education, or instructionalÌýdesign experience.
- Direct involvement with Canvas, Blackboard, or other onlineÌýplatforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and GoogleÌýDocs.
- Familiarity with Internet-basedÌýconferencing.
- Previous teaching or office experience preferred.
- Master’s degree in education required, preferably with emphasis in technology or instructionalÌýdesign.
